Wordle came about early in my graduate career. Wordle is a fun tool that allows you to summarize any amount of text in a “word cloud”. The words that are used with the most frequency will appear in the largest fonts. It’s a quick and easy way to summarize a bit of complex writing such as a dissertation.
Although I don’t think my Wordle reveals anything significant about my dissertation. Nonetheless, it’s a fairly efficient way of summarizing the main themes of my dissertation. For example, I wrote about political donors in networks, and those words are especially prominent. In addition, the Wordle was easily able to highlight two factors that were prominent in the development of these networks: interpersonal trust and homogeneity.
