After a tumultuous year, I am on the verge of starting a new journey in a completely new place. For the past six years, I have been spoiled in Santa Barbara, even as far to live two blocks away from the beach in my final year of grad school. Although the beach is now a 30-minute drive, I’m still excited for this new chapter to unfold.
Yesterday, I received the keys to my new place in Pomona. This move is exciting for a number of different reasons. But I’m most excited to be back in Los Angeles. Someone told me that it takes around two years for a place to really feel like home. But since I grew up here, I feel that the adjustment won’t take anywhere close to that long.
With moving into a new place, there’s always a huge list of things to accomplish. With this sweltering heat wave to boot, moving into my new place was a little overwhelming. Aside from a couple pieces of furniture, my house doesn’t really look like a home yet. There’s still a month left until Fall quarter begins, so I have a long and exciting month ahead of me.
Aside from that, a lot of the nervousness and anxiety has somewhat dissipated. The long list of things to do is keeping my mind busy for the time being. I’m sure there will be moments when I won’t think this, but this move is a dream come true. This was such a long term goal of mine, it’s a little surreal to see my commitment finally pan out. And so begins the next leg of my journey…
